I finally decided that this painting is finished, as I did not want to over work it. The Icelandic mare in the painting is based on my Grey Icelandic mare, Dyfra, when she was younger. I tried to keep the ground simple as I wanted the horse to stand out. I have a problem with making things too detailed. This painting is 99.9% Watercolor pencil, used like you would Watercolor cakes. The paper is my favorite bright white hot press paper and the size of the original is 14" by 20".

I love horses .. not up close and personal any more since becoming elderly .. but pictures of them or seeing them in the distance reminds me of going to the Iowa State Fair as a child and seeing all the horses there. All were beautiful .. but I could never draw or paint them .. which taught me to appreciate those who can and do. My friend paints them and so many other things too .. all are breathtakingly beautiful. I hope you enjoy her work also!!! This horse print would look gorgeous as the wall focal point in your living room :) or your office :) or in a doctor's waiting room :)

All of the details make this painting seem like it stepped out of a dream or a fairy tale. It's exceptional ....the clouds, that gorgeous black rock of an island...the sand with stones... all surreal and interesting. And the horse!!! A beauty+ f/v
